When you think of space food, you might imagine astronauts squeezing puréed carrot out of things resembling toothpaste tubes. Not exactly yummy. Thankfully the boffins at NASA have managed to come up with something a whole lot more appetising.
This freeze-dried vanilla ice cream sandwich is a tasty treat in suspended animation. As you eat the sandwich, your mouth rehydrates the ice cream, restoring it to its original state. We really loved the sweet creamy taste and the chocolate wafers. Now we're wondering if the boffins should work on freeze-dried pizza next. We'll let you know if that ever works out.
Freeze-dried food can be stored for a year or two without refrigeration as long as you keep them in an airtight container.
